Omphalocele (Greek for “belly cleft”) / Gastroschisis
Can be small, with only a small amount of intestine exposed, or large, with most of the abdominal organs, including intestine, liver, and spleen are present outside the abdominal cavity

 

An omphalocele is a congenital malformation where variable amounts of abdominal contents protrude into the base of the umbilical cord.

In gastroschisis, the defect is to the side (usually left) of the umbilicus.

Although this was a stillborn puppy, it is not at all unusual for these puppies to be born alive.
Severe cases such as this one are not viable.
