Flo's story is a special one. In November of 1999 my mother had a full cardiac arrest. She had been resuscitated by my step father, and was in a coma. I had to go. Flo’s mother, Wish, was in early labor when I left for Arizona to be with my mother, and another one of my girls was also pregnant and due soon. A call to friends brought a flood of help. I left wish, knowing she was in the best hands I could ask for. Two sets of those friends took my pregnant girls, while others helped Dan with the other dogs. Wish and I had a very special relationship. She wanted me home and in her whelping box when she delivered a litter. When I left the house, her labor simply ceased. She fretted, and would not start her labor again. Friends, Wayne and Susan Martin, watched her for a full day, with no continued labor. They had to take her in for a c-section. I had left her in their care, and had to trust their decisions. Wish delivered a normal litter of puppies via c-section on Thanksgiving Day (what great friends we have!), and my mother came out of her coma that same day. My mother was confused for a time, but she was talking to us, and made a miraculous recovery. We had much to be thankful for. Wish's litter, containing Flo and her littermates did fine, and Flo was eventually named for those events and true blessings – Blue Knight Blessings Flow. In early 2002 I suffered a traumatic rupture of a disc in my spine, with some resulting paralysis which resolved (thankfully) following emergency surgery. I was fine, but I was restricted to bed, and recovery would take a very long time. I could not handle my dogs. I made the terrible decision that I had to get out of dogs. I couldn’t leave Dan to do all of the kennel work, work a full time job, and take care of me. No decision could have been harder. There were just too many dogs to take care of. Again, the friends we have made in Labradors came into play. A dear friend, Cheri Conway, sent her husband Kevin from Oregon to swoop in and “steal” five dogs and bring them home to prevent me from placing dogs. The relief of just those five made the work much easier. She not only kept them for over six months, but she had *all* of them hip and elbow x-rayed while they were there (she had deliberately taken the five youngest dogs). I will never forget that kindness. Flo was one of those five. Not only did she pass hips and elbows, she captured the heart of her caregivers. They asked if she could stay for one litter. How could I resist? Flo shown at 2 years:
Flo almost stayed almost a year and never came into season. Finally, they sent her back home at my request, as I missed that very special girl. She immediately came into season (she was waiting for me), and was bred to Ch. Dickendall’s Davaron Gable (“Clark”). That litter produced “Ch. Blue Knight INXS” (“Tank”). The litter consisted of five boys and one girl. I had prayed for a girl. We kept her – Blue Knight Bouncing Betty (“Bounce”). Flo’s second litter again proved what a blessing Flo would turn out to be. She was bred to Ch. Lor-Al’s Chuck Waggin to help another dear friend who had owned Flo’s father. Sad acts of fate had denied my friend any puppies from Flo’s father, who died far too young. I put Nancy on Flo’s papers, and instructed her to select the sire of the litter to come, so she would be a co-breeder of that litter, and the puppy she took from it would be bred by her and carry her kennel name. We prayed for girls to pick from. Flo and Chuck (the sire) blessed us with an all girl litter! That litter resulted in Ch. Belgold Rebound "Jordan", and another girl from that litter went to another friend who desperately wanted a “short, black, full-coated girl”. Her name is Blueknight Chubby Checkers (mother to our Stonecreek Blue Knight Odin). Flo was bred one more time, to Hyspire Just In Case (“Casey”). That litter only resulted in three puppies (all boys). We decided not to keep a puppy from that litter. -Full sister to Blue Knight Smooth Flight UDX2 RAE JH TD-Mother of Mult. BISS Ch. Blue Knight INXS -Mother of Ch. Belgold Rebound -Grandmother of Major pointed Blue Knights Xtreme RPM (needs just one major to finish his Ch.) -Grandmother of Major Pointed, Specialty winning Blue Knight Fiddle Dee Dee Flo shown at 8 years Flo, 8 years of age as of this writing, is now retired. She has a very gentle nature, and is young at heart, although her gray muzzle betrays her age. She gets along with every dog she meets, and loves to play. Flo has proved to be a constant blessing to us and has presented others with blessings of their own. It's as if she was born to a special purpose -- it appears she was born to live up to her name!
